Here is Ron Gabel's answer to question number 12944

Question:

i have air pistol made in england by bedfords eureka patd jan18 july18 78 pat eng.The barrel looks like its not steel cause of no rust,the rest is steel or cast iron.It has abolt actoin type lock for securing the bullet.The pump is attached to the barrel and slides down the barrel to punp air.It also has a rod that slides into the pistol to covert it to a rifle which can tell is original.I have only seen two ever in my life similar to this one that I,M trying to find something outABOUT and their in tHe RALPH FOSTER MUSEUM in Missouri.Of all the guns i veiwed there these were marked very very extremely rare any information would be helpful thanks kevin

A. Bedford's English patent of 1876 covered an ingenious turn-bolt breech plug. Bedford's design had a push type plunger, a tapered chamber and bolt; and was in many ways the forerunner of some of the cheap Quackenbush guns and of the modern Benjamin air rifles. The rifle's value is not listed in the Blue Book of airguns, but the gun should be of great interest to air gun collectors.
