I need information regarding a percussion rifle. It is a 46cal. 30" barrel, Octagon barrel The only information the gun is C. Werner of Werner Bros Gunsmith on Saint Paul. I have been able to find that Charles & Otto Werner were gunsmiths in Rochester, NY circa 1857 - 1867. Thank you for your time.

Answer:

Charles Werner worked in Rochester NY (1855 - 76). His brother Otto Werner was an immigrant from Germany who was also a gunsmith in Rochester NY. Charles is listed on S. Saint Paul street in 1864 - 65. Otto returned from the Civil War and made guns in Rochester. Charles is again listed on 7 S. Saint Paul street in 1866 - 69, and later at 22 S.
