Here is Ron Gabel's answer to question number 2148

I recently recieved a 8 guage single shot gun from my grandfather. It has an Americian Arms stamp on top of the barrel. It also is stamped C.S.Shattuck,Hatfield Mass.on the side of the breach. I've been able to find the number 363 stamped in side the breach,under the forearm and under the butt plate. Can you give me any information on this gun,such as age orgin and value, as I need to insure it properly? Thanks for any help Randy Lichliter

Answer:

The American Arms Company was located in Boston MA circa 1870 to 1890 and in Bluffton AL from 1891 to 1901. C.S. Shattuck was a gun maker in Hatfield MA circa 1878 to 1908. This would suggest your gun was made between 1878 and 1890. My opinion, insure for $400 to $600.
