Here is Ron Gabel's answer to question number 3827

Question:

My husband inherited a 12 gauge shotgun that bears the name "Bay State" Worcester, Massachusetts. There seems to be conflicting information on when and where this gun was actually made, I have seen several different stories and bits of info on it, the serial number is A178130. Could you tell us when and where it was manufactured?

Answer:

The Bay State Arms Company was located in Worcester MA 1880 to 1902. The conflicting information could be due to the fact that the H&R Arms company used the trade name "Bay State" on single guns and that shotguns marked "Bay State Gun" were made by Hopkins & Allen, J. Stevens and Bay State Arms.
