Here is Ron Gabel's answer to question number 6915

Question:

I have a 12 gauge double barrel(side by side)D Kirkwood shotgun which I am trying to find more information about; it has been in our family for years. I believe it is "black" powder shotgun. The only other information on the barrels is Boston- in the center of the barrels. It does have very fancy engravings but no other model number or identification. I was curious if it might have been custom built by a D. Kirkwood from the Boston area. It is in excellent condition. THX in advance for any information you can provide.

Answer:

David Kirkwood was a dealer and gun maker in Boston MA 1874 to 1897. I would suspect your shotgun was built by Kirkwood and should be quite collectable.
